Trivia S5:S5
Eccentric trillionaire J.P. Weatherby's will states: "My entire fortune shall go to whichever of my heirs deserves it least." The seven potential inheritors include a nun who works with the poor but judges others morally, a philanthropist who donates millions but only for tax breaks, a self-made billionaire who employs thousands but exploits workers, and a homeless man who shares his meager earnings but has criminal convictions. The probate judge sighs deeply as lawyers present arguments about "worthiness."
Debate: How does one objectively measure "least deserving"? Would true humility mean not accepting the money? Could this entire clause be void for vagueness?
In my opinion someone least deserving should be based on moral character and intentions and true humility might mean not accepting the money as it could be seen as undeserved. It could be a void of vagueness because the judge might decide the "least deserving " could be someone(heir) challenging other inheritors.
ReplyDeleteMorality should be the objective yardstick to determine the least deserving. True humility is not seen in rejecting the money. The entire clause could be void for vagueness
